The goal is to have new playground equipment installed at Marshall Fireman’s Park before the big firefighter’s festival June 22-24.

Community members, along with city employees, EMS staff and volunteer firefighters, assisted in constructing new equipment for children to play on in the park on June 5 and 6. Most of the work was scheduled to be completed by June 7, with mulch being delivered that day.

Ideally, the playground will be open to children on Monday, June 18, Brandon Millner, the village’s park and recreation director said.

The new 100 by 50-foot area is located near a new parking lot installed at the park. It is part of a master plan to revamp the village park.

The apparatuses include a fire truck sponsored by the Marshall Volunteer Fire Department, a swing set with five swings. One swing is a new expression swing, which allows a child and an adult to face each other while using the swing, Millner said. There are also two slides and a sand box that will be added at a future date.

About 10 volunteers assisted with the project, Millner said. The goal is to have the playground 100 percent completed by Monday, he added.

“We are still waiting for a few pieces to be delivered,” he said.

The equipment was purchased from Lee Recreation in Cambridge. Several employees assisted with the assembly, Millner said.
